How a Cornwall Renewables Company Stopped Wasting Money on Ads That Went Nowhere
A renewable energy specialist was spending significant money on Google Ads and SEO services with almost nothing to show for it. Within weeks of launching a conversion-focused website, enquiries started flowing and ad spend finally delivered ROI.
Traffic increased significantly
Dozens of qualified enquiries since launch
Marketing spend finally working
About the Project
Client: Wired by Jessops
Location: Cornwall, UK
Industry: Renewable energy (solar, battery storage, EV charging)
Project type: Interview-led website rebuild with conversion infrastructure
Timeline: Launched October 2024
Wired by Jessops installs solar panels, Tesla Powerwall batteries, and EV charging points across Cornwall. Run by Joe Jessop, they’d built a strong reputation with 63 five-star Google reviews but their website was actively working against them.
The Challenge
Burning money on marketing with nothing to show
Joe was in a frustrating position. His company was paying an SEO agency for search optimisation and Google Ads management. Traffic was coming in from the paid ads, but nothing was happening. No enquiries, no phone calls, no bookings.
The Squarespace trap
The existing site was built on Squarespace. The SEO company couldn’t update it properly without full platform access, which created a bottleneck. Meanwhile, paid ads were sending visitors to pages that didn’t convert.
No way to track what was working
There was no clear conversion path, no booking system, and no way to trace which ads were actually worth the money. Joe was spending money but had no idea if it was working – and increasingly, it looked like it wasn’t.
Mobile was broken
The site performed poorly on mobile devices, which mattered because most potential customers were searching on their phones while at home or considering solar installation.

The Solution
Stop guessing, start capturing
Joe was introduced to Mitchell Digital through a business consultant. Rather than jumping straight into another build, we started with what we always do: a structured founder interview to capture what actually makes Wired by Jessops different.
What the interview revealed
- Their conversion rate was being killed by lack of trust signals
- Customers needed to see proof from real Cornwall residents
- The booking process was too vague – people didn’t know what would happen next
- FAQs weren’t on the site, so every enquiry started with the same basic questions
Building conversion infrastructure, not just a website
We rebuilt the site with one goal: make the marketing spend actually work.
63 Google reviews, categorised by AI
We integrated all their Google reviews and used AI to categorise them by service type. Solar reviews appear on solar pages. Tesla Powerwall reviews appear on battery storage pages. This meant prospects saw proof from people like them, in their situation.
Clear booking path
Simple “Book a Consultation” forms backed by reviews right next to the form. No mystery about what happens next – we spelled it out clearly.
Awards and credentials visible
Wired by Jessops had won industry recognition but it wasn’t on the site. We made sure visitors could see they were dealing with an established, credible company.
Mobile-first rebuild
The site was rebuilt with mobile performance as the priority, not an afterthought. Fast loading, clear CTAs, easy to use on a phone while researching solar installation.

The Results
From invisible to unstoppable
The site launched on 3rd October 2024. The change was immediate.
Traffic grew significantly
Before launch, the site was quiet. Within days of going live, daily traffic increased substantially and has maintained strong levels since. The marketing spend was finally reaching people – and those people were sticking around.
Dozens of high-value enquiries
In the four months since launch, Wired by Jessops has received dozens of qualified enquiries. These aren’t tyre-kickers – they’re serious prospects ready to discuss installation.
Strong conversion to customers
Of those enquiries, the majority convert to customers. For high-ticket renewable energy installations, that’s exactly what matters – not just traffic, but actual sales.
Marketing investment finally justified
The Google Ads that were burning money are now generating trackable, valuable leads. The SEO investment has infrastructure that actually converts traffic instead of letting it bounce away.
