How Bowfield Farm Replaced a Dated Google Sites Template with a Booking-Focused Website

A family-run camping and caravan site in County Durham was stuck with a non-responsive Google Sites template that forced all enquiries through phone or email. We rebuilt the site with a simple booking availability form that’s generated hundreds of enquiries and saved countless hours of back-and-forth.

About the Project

Bowfield Farm is a traditional working livestock farm offering camping and caravan pitches with stunning views over the Yorkshire Dales. The family-run site combines modern facilities with a genuine farm experience.

The Challenge

A dated DIY template that didn’t work for mobile or bookings

Bowfield Farm’s existing website was built on a Google Sites template that looked exactly like what it was – a free template that hadn’t aged well.

The problems were clear:

  • Completely non-responsive

The old site didn’t work on mobile at all. Text was tiny, images didn’t scale, and navigation was impossible. With most people searching for campsites on their phones, this was costing them bookings.

  • Every enquiry required phone or email

There was no way for potential guests to check availability or submit their preferred dates. Every single enquiry meant phone tag or email back-and-forth just to establish basic information.

  • Didn't reflect the business

The template looked cheap and dated – nothing like the quality, well-maintained site they actually ran. First impressions matter, especially when people are choosing where to spend their holiday.

They knew the site wasn’t working for them, but rebuilding felt daunting.

The Solution

A modern, mobile-first site built around removing friction

We worked alongside Bradley Layton Design, who created a fresh brand identity and guidelines for Bowfield Farm. The new brand became the foundation for the website rebuild.

  • Booking availability check form

Instead of forcing phone calls or emails, we added a simple form where visitors can submit their preferred dates, number of people, and requirements. Not direct booking – just a friction-free way to start the conversation with all the key information already captured.

  • Mobile-first design

Built to work beautifully on phones first, then scaled up for tablets and desktops. Clear navigation, readable text, properly sized images.

  • Testimonials section

Added customer reviews to build trust and answer the “is this place actually good?” question before people even enquire.

  • Professional appearance

The new site finally matched the quality of the actual campsite – clean, modern, credible.

The Results

Hundreds of enquiries and massive time savings

Since launch, the booking availability form has generated hundreds of enquiries – all with dates, requirements, and contact details already captured. No more starting from scratch on every phone call.

Consistent additional enquiries
The contact form continues to bring in enquiries from people who prefer email or have specific questions.

Time back in the business
The availability form eliminated the most time-consuming part of enquiry handling: establishing dates, party size, and basic requirements. That information now arrives pre-filled.

Professional first impression
The site now looks like a well-run, credible business – because it is. The mobile experience alone has made a huge difference to conversion.
